thought i would explain what i did when i painted my slim bags here goes:
first i got the hard street slim bags as primed units through fast eddy. bags are mounted with easy brackets
took the bags apart and sanded with 600 grit sand paper and scuffed with red 3m scotchbrite pad
inside of bags were masked off and PPG sealer was appiled , dark grey.
Standox triumph code pr phantom black was appiled to bottoms and lids
lids were masked off as to leave a small strip of black on the bottom of lids
3 coats of silver was applied to lids on remaining area , the silver was the ground coat for Duponts HotHues apple red custom colors
6 coats of the dark maroon mid-coat was then applied ,note a small stripe of silver was taped off next to the black on lid
next 2 coats of PPG clear was applied
the next day all 4 pieces were sanded with 1000 grit and 2 more coats of clear was applied
here's the results

Just delivered my hard cases for painting. Hope they turn out as good as those. Having mine done in the faster colour though.

Nice work.

Oi Ron
They tell me that "copying" is as near as you get to "flattery"

Thanks for the advice on the paint spec. As I said My next door neighbour has 3 panel shops so I have printed off all of your advice on the colour and He reckons he can do it most probably with the DuPont colour , so mine are with him now. Hope they turn out as good as yours.

Gerry, the only thing i will say about the Dupont hot hues is that in direct sunlight its a dead match but in over cast skies the bags look a little to red but i plan on doing something different next off season to my layout so i'll just put the dupont on the red spots and it'll match no matter what the light conditions. but to tell you the truth nobody but me sees the difference in the color so maybe i'm just picky.

Intimidator32,
The bags look great! I have a couple questions:

Did your bags start out with the gloss or flat finish? Mine are flat, and have kind of a rough finish on them.... Wondering if this will present any problems when it comes to paint prep. Also, the bags are quite flexible, do you foresee any issues of possible paint cracking from accidental, excessive flexing of the painted surfaces?

mine were primer gray so they were unpainted but your flat finish shouldn't be any different as far as the paint-prep goes as far as the cracking most modern clears have flex additive built into them now so that shouldn't be an issue either.

Hello Ron ( Intimidator ) & John (X Farmer)
I got my Hard Street Sixers back from the painters and as you indicated Ron,I think they got it about 95+% right, It is really interesting how the colour changes when you look at it from different angles, Some times it looks too Cranberry and then when you put them on the bike they look like 99% right. The Painter said that the Matt Finish was no problem as it is actually sprayed on and when they sanded it back the primer was there ready to go.

He also didn't get the "masking off " quite right so I got the "Local Stripe It Man" to put the Silver Stripe on it when they were finished.

Anyway Ron I am happy with the end result and thanks for all the Product Colour Advice as the Painter said that it was invaluable to have the info before they started.

Oi Maggie

That's a pretty common comment these days when someone comes into "The Shed"

When Ya got one (A Shed that is) as small as mine you don't have too many options. I had 3 Bikes in it once upon a time but Ya couldn't fart in the joint so something had to give. and besides my vocabulary was getting a bit one lined " Fn Pommies Bikes" and I also worked in the coal mines for a life time and got sick of being in shit all the time.

But you right Mate that would be a good topic. Except Idiots like Jamie would just cause havoc.

Gerry, your bags look good glad i could help. you know paint is a funny thing its not as cut and dry as people seem to think it is. its a lot of trial and error especially when your dealing with an unknown color for the first time. most of the colors i deal with daily i see a lot and i can dial them in but both this cranberry and the pacific blue that i had on my america were a challenge. by the way you say you worked in the coal mines, my dad was a coal miner all his life and he retired at age 50 and he died at age 62 so its a hard life and one i wanted no part of.
i hope you have good health for many years to come and safe riding.

Not to hijack the thread too much but My cases are in for paint at the mo, I hope they turn out half as good as these. Not a big fan of panniers but they are essential when Mrs1600 travels with me. If your going to have some, they may as well look good.

Nice work -
